STEP 2 (optional): Spritz Moisturizing Mist  across the face to lightly hydrate, reset pH balance, and enhance penetration of serums that follow.

STEP 3: Apply Booster or Skin Serum on damp skin.

STEP 4 (optional): Apply Eye Serum around your eyes and over your lips.

STEP 5: Apply Light Moisturizer and/or mineral sunscreen.

EVENING

STEP 1 (optional): Remove any eye and lip makeup with Erase the Day on a cotton round.

STEP 2: Double cleanse with Cleanser. Rinse with warm water and gently remove with a clean face towel using sweeping motions.

STEP 3 (optional): Apply a thin layer of Volcanic Ash Mask and leave on for up to 8 minutes a few times per week. The lava and magma clay will help to remineralize your skin and remove excess oils.

STEP 4 (optional): Spritz Moisturizing Mist  across the face to lightly hydrate, reset pH balance, and prepare the skin for treatment serums.

STEP 5: Apply Booster or Skin Serum on damp skin.

STEP 6 (optional): Apply Eye Serum  around your eyes and over your lips

STEP 7: Exfoliate up to five times per week. Choose Salicylic Acid Gel if concerned with open and closed comedones (small bumps that are not red or tender to touch). Choose Mandelic Acid 8% if concerned with hyperpigmentation (dark spots/discoloration) or inflamed breakouts (bumps that are red and tender to the touch).

Note that you can layer Booster or Skin Serum under Salicylic Acid Gel and Mandelic Acid 8% or use your exfoliating acid serum on opposite evenings. Consider incorporating Skin Restore Serum (used as a moisturizer as this serum is moisturizing enough for oily skin types) a few times per week to promote healthy skin aging.

STEP 8: Apply Light Moisturizer.

FAQs

Why is my skin so oily?

Oily skin is often caused by genetics, hormonal fluctuations, diet, stress, or overuse of harsh skincare that strips natural oils (like sodium laureth sulfate and sodium lauryl sulfate in popular cleansers), prompting the skin to produce more sebum. Often, dehydrated skin will produce excess oil, which is why we recommend incorporating hydrating serums like Booster or Skin Serum into your skin care routine. Hydrating your skin adequately will help to balance your skin’s oil production.

Should I moisturize if I have oily skin?

Yes! Skipping moisturizer can actually make oiliness worse, as dehydrated skin produces more oil to compensate. Use lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturizers like Light Moisturizer and Barrier Renewal Cream.

How often should I wash my face?

Morning and evening is ideal. Over-washing can irritate skin and increase oil production so try not to wash your face more than twice daily. You may or may not need to cleanse twice in the evening – only do so if you wear makeup.

What ingredients work best for oily skin?

Look for salicylic acid in our Salicylic Acid Gel, niacinamide and clay in our Volcanic Ash Mask, and retinoids in our Skin Restore Serum. These help control oil, unclog pores, and balance the skin.

Is oily skin more prone to acne?

Yes, excess oil can clog pores and lead to breakouts, especially when mixed with dead skin cells and bacteria. It’s important to be consistent with your morning and evening skin care routine, one that doesn’t strip or irritate your skin barrier, is regular with exfoliation up to five times per week maximum, and uses non-comedogenic products. Refer to the home protocol above for recommendations.
