Home Care Protocol
After dermaplaning, it’s important to keep the skin hydrated and protected. Use a gentle, hydrating moisturizer and a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily, as your skin will be more sensitive to UV exposure.
Avoid active ingredients like retinol, AHAs, or BHAs for at least 48 hours to prevent irritation. You should also avoid heavy exfoliation or treatments like waxing for 3 days. Keeping the skin calm and moisturized helps prolong the results and ensures a smooth recovery.
Use Cleanser, Booster and Barrier Renewal Cream in that order twice daily post treatment. Don’t forget to apply mineral sunscreen in the morning and reapply every 2 hours when outdoors or mid-day when indoors to protect your skin.
FAQs
What is dermaplaning and how does it work?
Dermaplaning is a professional exfoliation treatment that involves using a sterile, surgical-grade blade to gently remove dead skin cells and fine facial hair (vellus hair or “peach fuzz”). This helps to smooth the skin’s surface, improve light reflection, and enhance the absorption of skincare products. It’s a non-invasive procedure with immediate visible results and no downtime. The treatment is typically performed by licensed estheticians or medical professionals. It’s safe, quick, and painless when done correctly.
What are the benefits of dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning offers several benefits beyond just hair removal. It smooths the skin’s texture, helps fade the appearance of dullness, fine lines, and superficial pigmentation, and creates a flawless canvas for makeup. It also allows serums and moisturizers to penetrate more deeply for better results. Many clients notice an instant glow and softer skin after a single session. With regular treatments, dermaplaning can contribute to long-term skin clarity and radiance.
Will my facial hair grow back thicker or darker?
No, dermaplaning does not change the structure, thickness, or color of your facial hair. The fine vellus hair that’s removed will grow back at the same rate and texture as before. It may feel slightly different at first because it’s cut bluntly rather than tapered, but this is temporary and not a change in the hair itself. Hormonal hair growth is a separate issue and not caused by dermaplaning. This is a common myth that often discourages people from trying an otherwise beneficial treatment.
Is dermaplaning safe for all skin types?
Dermaplaning is generally safe for most skin types, including sensitive skin, when performed by a trained professional. However, it may not be suitable for individuals with active acne, rosacea flare-ups, or open wounds, as it can irritate inflamed or compromised skin. For those with darker skin tones, it’s a great alternative to more abrasive exfoliation methods, as it doesn’t risk pigmentation changes. Always have a consultation before treatment to determine if dermaplaning is right for your skin condition and goals. Your skin professional can customize the treatment based on your needs.
How often should I get dermaplaning done?
Most clients benefit from dermaplaning every 3 to 4 weeks, which aligns with the skin’s natural cell turnover cycle. This frequency allows dead skin cells and fine hair to be regularly removed without over-exfoliating or irritating the skin. Some people with sensitive skin may space treatments out more, while others with thicker or oilier skin can tolerate slightly more frequent sessions. Your skin professional can customize a schedule based on your skin’s needs and response.
